Naming of United Maps' hyperlocal data products
On a high level, we adopt the naming
scheme of "ISO
3166-2:1998 Codes for the representation of names of
countries and their subdivisions - Part 2: Country subdivision code. As
for Germany, ISO 3166-2:DE defines all German "Bundesländer"
federal states. As similar naming schemes are known for all countries,
we stick to it. Data products for metroregions
are named accordingly.
NVT stands for Navteq's
symbol at the New York Stock Exchange until
2007. Navteq now is a subsidiary of Nokia.
TA stands for Tele Atlas, a
subsidiary of TomTom.
In GIS, conflation
is defined as the process of combining geographic
information from overlapping sources so as to retain accurate data,
minimize redundancy, and reconcile data conflicts. (in [Seth, Samal
2008, p129] quoted from [Longley et al. 2001])
