Why maps are the new Interface

There are plenty of trend scouts and futurologists out there marketing glass bowl services. Trendwatching.com is one of the louder voices. As new year is prediction season, trendwatching spots a not-so-new trend amongst five others:

Are maps the new interface? We think maps have been an effective interface through ages and finally will be proliferated to the most personal device ever: the ubiquitous cell in everybodies pocket.
